These audio recordings were made by 2nd grade students at the "Esteban Vicente Elementary School" (PS 170X) in the Bronx. In seven sessions, students learned about the different elements of music and how these elements are combined in order to create a song. The following recordings are like cooking recipes of "How to Make A Song". In a musical structure given by the teaching artist, the students composed (created and notated) the rhythms and notes of each of their particular melodies. They also created the words or lyrics. Students also built four "Marimba like" instruments made out of cardboard tubes, which were used for these recordings. Each cardboard tube was measured and cut to exact lengths in order to obtain specific notes to create mayor and minor harmonies. They were also exposed to the use of music technology (modern digital software and hardware equipment) which was used to do the live recording in their classrooms. We wanted to share this experience with you so you can also learn how to make your own song. Enjoy! Hector Morales
